What is Lotería?
Lotería is a well-known game from Mexico. It is similar to the American game bingo.
How do you play?
Traditional Lotería has a caller holding a deck of 54 cards, each with a different image. Each player has a game board that has a grid of 16 images. The caller randomly selects a card from the deck and announces it to the players by its name. The players look for a match on their grids and cover it with a marker. The first player with four images in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row, squared pattern, or any other previously specified pattern, shouts “¡Lotería!” and wins the game.
Play Space Lotería!
Employees at NASA’s Johnson Space Flight Center developed a game called Space Lotería. In this game, they replaced the traditional images with some images that represent work at NASA. The game provides both the English and Spanish names for each of the images. The back of the caller cards contain a related “fun fact” in both English and Spanish that help tell the story of NASA’s history, present, and future exploration.
