Florida Everglades, USA

Everglades National Park is a very special place in North America, because it contains two types of plant communities living together. One type is normally found only in mild climates (neither too hot nor too cold), and the other is normally found only in tropical climates (hot and wet). The park is also known for its rich bird life, particularly large wading birds. It is also the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles exist side by side. The blue tip of the Gulf coast is visible in the lower left corner of this image. Vibrant colors of the marshy vegetation range from light blue to green to coral.

West Fjords, Iceland

The area is a large peninsula indented by a number of Iceland's fjords. They include less than one-eighth the country's land area, but their jagged edges account for more than half of Iceland's total coastline. The water in this image appears a midnight blue; snow appears white, and the barren coastal areas appear orange.
